EDUCATIONAL GARDEN - MARKHAM PRIMARY Educational Garden

The Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough, Cllr. Anne Collins, officially launched Markham Primary School’s Educational Garden on Friday 13th June.  The aim of the launch was to raise awareness of this project for its educational and environmental  purposes to parents, governors, CCBC and partnership members.

The project was ERDF Objective One funded through Groundwork Caerphilly’s ‘On The Ground’ programme. The garden incorporates an interpretation of an Anderson shelter for the schools World War II project that was made using sustainable building techniques.  A hedge, wild flower meadow and hibernaculum benches were all created to encourage wildlife to the school and a bench was made using the traditional building material of cob.  All the work was done with the help of local volunteers including students from Ystrad Mynach College, ‘On the Ground’ volunteers and the Markham Resource Centre.
